Neighborhood
Mount Vernon was listed as one of the top ten “Coolest Small Towns” by Budget Travel Magazine. While exploring Mount Vernon you will find a historic school transformed into a community center that shines with a variety of shops including a fitness center, a bakery, a lending library and even a dance studio! If you are traveling from the West on Highway 30 you may be lucky enough to round the curve and spot a barn with large memorial tribute to Grant Wood’s “American Gothic” painting. Every May the town hosts Iowa’s largest Madonnari Chalk art festival that highlights the talent of artists as well as amateur artists from around the area.
